BEACH RESTORATIONS, INC Additional details are available and will be added here shortly; in the meantime, here are some interesting facts: BRI’s one and only project: a 1000-foot “test area” at Stump Pass Beach State Park, Charlotte County, Florida, whose stated objective was to reduce volume of sediment flowing into the channel and stabilize a section of Stump Pass beach. This project was paid for by Charlotte County, Bureau of Beaches and Coastal Systems, and the Dept. of Parks & Recreation. BRI was hired without the inconvenience of going through a bidding process. Holmberg Technologies, located practically next door to the project area, was not permitted to bid on it. The amount paid to BRI for a 1000-foot project (of which 300 feet—one football field—was actually completed) was $1.3 million. This cost was divided between Charlotte County and the State of Florida. (Compare this cost with Save Flagler’s Beach not-to-exceed figure of $2.5 million for a mile—5,280 feet—of affected beach to be treated with slurry-filled Undercurrent Stabilizers) No bonds of any kind were required. Project began 2004. Six tapered sand-filled tubes were planned. Three were installed in 2005. At least one was damaged during installation. Sand was accreted, but the project was halted after 300 feet of area complete due to storm activity.
